After graduation and months of struggling to find a job, I decided to take a month-long solo trip to Italy. I had always dreamed of enrolling in the Florence Study Abroad program my school offered for Interior Design majors, but given that I finished my degree a year early, I was never able to fit it in. Once I graduated, I felt like I was missing out on something. I felt like I needed to take advantage of the fact that I wasn’t yet tied down with a job (despite how badly I wanted to be) and I needed to go see all of the famous art and architecture I had learned about in school for myself. If I was going to do this, it was going to be now. So, I booked the cheapest tickets I could find, and I got on a plane a month later.
My first stop was Venice, known for its Gothic-style architecture. Honorable mentions include St. Mark’s Basilica, St. Mark’s Campanile, Doge’s Palace, and the Rialto Bridge. However, there are a plethora of lesser-known cathedrals and museums that are also remarkable to witness.
These are just a few of the highlights of the numerous buildings I had the privilege of viewing in the city of Venice. The attention to detail in every aspect of the building process is truly incomprehensible, and the sheer amount of history that took place at these landmarks makes it even more incredible to observe.
Next stop: Florence!
